SplitIt API is a bill-splitting feature designed for integration into existing fintech apps (like OPay, MoneyPoint, Kuda), allowing users to easily split bills, track payments, and remind friends, all within their familiar app environment.
As the lead product designer, I led the entire end-to-end process:
Problem framing
Designing mobile UI flows
Designing notification interactions
Creating a playful, consistent one-page marketing website targeting fintech developers and partners
Also worked on visual consistency between the app interface and the marketing website, ensuring the brand’s bubbly, fun personality stayed strong across all touchpoints.
Users often struggle when splitting bills with friends inside fintech apps:
Manual transfers, copying account numbers, and tracking payments happen outside the app (in group chats or notes).
No native, social money experience built into most fintech apps today.
On the fintech business side:
Companies want to offer social, user-friendly money features but don’t have an out-of-the-box solution to integrate.
No dedicated API + marketing package that makes integrating bill-splitting fast and easy.
Designed SplitIt API, a playful, easy-to-integrate bill-splitting feature with:
Simple flow for users to split with contacts or manually added participants
Automatic generation of friendly payment links inside the app
Dynamic payment tracking page showing who’s paid, who hasn’t, and allowing soft reminders
Seamless integration into fintech apps through a clear API, supported by marketing materials and developer docs
The user interface and website followed a bubbly, friendly, light visual direction to stay consistent with the fun nature of social money features.
This project was one of my proudest because it pushed me to balance technical product thinking (designing an API feature) with delightful user-centered design (keeping the flow fun and playful for end-users).
What I learned:
How to translate a backend product (an API) into a clear, visual, and appealing frontend story for both users and fintech developers.
The importance of visual consistency; making sure the playful, bubbly feeling carried through from the mobile interface into the marketing site.
Dynamic payment tracking page showing who’s paid, who hasn’t, and allowing soft reminders
How to simplify complex flows (like payment tracking and reminders) into minimal, clear interactions without overwhelming the user.
